FOOD CHALLENGES
A food challenge procedure is the best way to make sure if your child is or isn’t allergic to a particular food allergen. Your Immunology Specialist will determine if a food challenge test may be helpful for your child after consideration of several factors.
Most commonly a food challenge may be advised when:

-
Your child has never eaten the food, but has tested positive to skin prick testing to the food item.

-
Your child has previously had an allergic reaction to the food, but now the skin prick test reaction is lower, and your child may have outgrown their allergy.

-
Your child may be allergic to fresh milk or whole egg, but could be tolerant to small amounts of baked egg or baked milk in a cake/muffin.

-
The challenge procedure, cost and risks will be discussed with you during the course of the consultation.
